Hey so I just found a creepy shack and I was wondering if there is anything important i can do there or do I need to complete something elsewhere to make meaningful progress.

At the stump in the top right corner of the town, I found a hole in the bock of it and was prompted to climb down, once I did so I was placed in a dark void-like place. I have been walking around for minutes with my lantern on and I haven't found anything nor do I have a way to leave. I'd love to get some help on what to do because I really want to keep playing. I have looked online for a solution but I haven't found any.
